Service Learning Tour Itinerary:
DAY 1: MANAGUA
Airport greeting and transfer to hotel in Managua. Lodging at hotel in Managua
DAY 2: LA PRIMAVERA
Breakfast at hotel and transfer to the La Primavera neighborhood of Managua. Meet with the women’s group, “Women in Action”, who live and carry out health/nutrition, income generating, and education programs in their impoverished settlement. Have lunch with the women and participate in English/Spanish workshops and learn to carve gourds at their gourd carving cooperative. Dinner and lodging at Managua hotel.
DAY 3: MANAGUA– MASAYA VOLCANO—GRANADA
Breakfast at hotel and transfer to Masaya Volcano. Ride to the top of Santiago crater with spectacular views of the gas filled crater which are inhabited by sulfur dioxide immune green parakeets. Transfer to Granada, Central America’s oldest European settlement. Granada boasts beautiful, Spanish colonial architecture, petroglyph museums, and excellent restaurants. Lunch in Granada and horse drawn coach tour of the city. Boat tour of Granada’s island on the North end of Lake Nicaragua. Dinner and lodging at Granada hotel. Optional evening out for live music. ______________________________________________________

All tours can begin any day of the year. Tours can also be customized depending on your interests and travel schedule.
Service Learning Tour costs depend on the number of travelers in your party and travel dates. Please specify number of people and estimated dates when requesting a quote.
DAY 4: GRANADA—MOMBACHO VOLCANO-APOYO CRATER LAKE
Breakfast at Hotel and transfer to Mombacho Volcano. Ride up to top of Volcano and into its breathtaking cloud forest. Guided nature walk amongst the clouds of the forests and take in the gorgeous scenes of the variety of orchids and bromeliads of the forest. Learn about the unique ecosystem of the cloud forest and of its importance to the natural ecosystem. Transfer to Laguna de Apoyo, a 200 meter deep volcanic crater lake with crystal clear water. Lunch, swimming and kayaking at the lake. Transfer back to hotel in Granada for dinner.
DAY 5: GRANDA-JINOTEPE-LA PAZ, CARAZO (Option of staying with host family in La Paz for days 5-6)
Breakfast and hotel and transfer to Jinotepe. Tour of Jinotepe’s public market and museum. Transfer to La Paz, Carazo and lunch at German Alguierre’s pottery workshop. Visit German’s art galleries with unique pottery and furniture pieces, bonsai trees and flower gardens. Short nature hike in search of howler monkeys. Visit to Organic coffee farm and meeting with farmer’s cooperative and youth environmental group. Learn about organic coffee, biogas systems that collect methane from animal manure for cooking. Transfer to Jinotepe. Dinner and lodging in Jinotepe.
DAY 5-6: JINOTEPE—LA PAZ, CARAZO
Breakfast at hotel and transfer to La Paz, Carazo. Participate in the installation of a biogas system for a La Paz family. Work on tree nursery and reforestation projects in La Paz. Lunches with host family in La Paz. Dinners and lodging in Jinotepe.
DAY 7: JINOTEPE—LA MAKINA WATERFALL—LA BOQUITA PACIFIC BEACH—MANAGUA
Breakfast at hotel and transfer to La Makina Waterfall. This private reserve includes horseback riding, nature hikes, and swimming at the magnificent waterfall. Transfer to La Boquita beach for lunch. Swimming at the beach and options of horseback riding or surfing. Transfer to Managua. Dinner and lodging at hotel in Managua.
DAY 8: MANAGUA
Transfer to airport for flight home.
